Do you have low testosterone?

Low Testosterone is a real medical condition known as hypogonadism. Low Testosterone occurs when a man’s testosterone levels (T levels) have fallen below a level of approximately 400 ng/dL. Testosterone levels between 400 ng/dL and 1200 ng/dL are generally considered in the normal range.

The brain and the testes work together to keep testosterone in this range. When levels of testosterone are below the normal range, the brain signals the testes to make more. When there is enough testosterone, the brain signals the testes to make less. If you have Low Testosterone, treating it is important to your health.

Some symptoms of Low Testosterone include:

  • Fatigue or decreased energy
  • Reduced sex drive (libido)
  • Sexual dysfunction (weak erections, fewer erections)
  • Depressed mood
  • Increased body fat
  • Reduced muscle mass and strength
  • Decreased bone strength
  • Loss of body hair (reduced shaving)
  • Hot flashes

Many men experiencing the effects of Low Testosterone write them off as just a part of aging or simply the result of a long work day. But if you think what you’re feeling is more than that, talking with our doctor is the first step. Have an open, honest conversation with our doctor. At your appointment, you should discuss your symptoms and ask if you should have your testosterone levels evaluated. Then go over your results together. You could also ask questions like: What treatment options are available if I have Low Testosterone? Can diet, exercise, and lifestyle affect testosterone levels? Can we work together to set a list of goals for my treatment plan?

Once you have discussed your symptoms with our doctor, he can take a medical history and perform an exam, assess those signs and symptoms, and determine your testosterone levels with blood tests. Once our doctor gets your results back, he will be able to determine if you have Low Testosterone and other health issues. Our doctor may also order additional tests to rule out other conditions.

What is Hormone Replacement Therapy for women?

Many people resign themselves to living with the serious symptoms caused by hormone imbalance, accepting them as an unchangeable and an untreatable part of the aging process. However, maintaining optimum levels of hormones promotes an improved quality of life and prevents many of the degenerative illnesses commonly associated with aging.

For your body to function at its full potential, it needs to produce sufficient levels of hormones. As you age, production of these hormones declines, and a wide range of symptoms can be a result: hot flashes, weight gain, lack of sexual interest – just to name a few. Hormone Therapy is used to bring these hormonal levels to balance.

The effective use of Hormone Replacement Therapy, for the relief of symptoms caused by age-related hormone imbalances found in women, can optimize and balance hormones that are essential to good health and a feeling of well-being. By providing hormones it is possible to restore your hormones back to the balance you had in your 20′s and 30′s.

Although Hormone Replacement Therapy is an age-old remedy, many doctors and their patients are just learning of this option. Hormone Therapy is in the forefront of age management treatment and for many doctors the newest method for helping cure much that ails the menopausal women. Testosterone Hormone Replacement Therapy for women is working its way into mainstream America.

What are Hormones?

Hormones are compounds that have exactly the same chemical and molecular structure as hormones that are produced in the human body. Numerous studies have been done attesting to the safety of natural hormones for men and women.

Depending on your symptoms and test results, you may be prescribed the hormones estrogen, progesterone, thyroid, DHEA, cortisol, testosterone or melatonin.

Hormones have been successfully used by men and women for decades. In well-known medical journals, researchers have reported that the hormones, estrogen and testosterone, are not only safe but also have a positive impact on some diseases like osteoporosis and prostate cancer.

The benefits of Hormone Replacement Therapy in women and men, who suffer from low to normal hormone imbalance levels known as Menopause, Perimenopause, Andropause, also known as Male Menopause, are substantial and often include:

  • Improved sexual performance
  • Improved lipid and cholesterol levels
  • Improved prostate health
  • Improved blood sugar balance
  • Improved mood and outlook
  • Increased focus and concentration
  • More strength and energy
  • Improved well being
  • Greater libido
  • Reduced aches and pains
  • Better quality of sleep
  • Improved muscle mass

Menopause & Perimenopause

Menopause is a condition that every healthy woman will experience as she reaches middle age, typically between the ages of 35-59. It is estimated that 6,000 women a day get the condition…. Menopause! It is a natural, gradual process that occurs when a woman’s ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone, and her lifetime supply of eggs becomes depleted, meaning a full year has passed since her last menstrual cycle. Women going through menopause often experience a combination of some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats or cold flashes
  • Irritability, mood swings, sudden tears
  • Loss of libido, vaginal dryness
  • Heart palpitations
  • Fatigue, anxiety
  • Urinary urgency
  • Insomnia
  • Clammy skin
  • Depression
  • Weight gain

Perimenopause is the word that describes the time when a woman’s body transitions from her fertile, child-bearing years into middle age. During this natural transition, the body undergoes biologic changes resulting from declining ovarian hormone production.

Every woman’s experience is different, but common symptoms of perimenopause include:

  • Irregular menstrual periods
  • Hot flashes
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Insomnia
  • Mood swings
  • Depression
  • Weight gain

Menopause treatments focus on relieving your signs and symptoms and on preventing or lessening chronic conditions that may occur with aging. Hormone Replacement Therapy using Estrogen therapy remains, by far, the most effective treatment option for relieving menopausal hot flashes. Depending on your personal and family medical history, your doctor may recommend estrogen to provide symptom relief for you.
